Freeview Endorses PlayTV Device

Freeview today welcomed the launch of PlayTV™, a new device that connects to Sony PlayStation®3 (PS3™) which will provide yet another way for consumers to switch to Freeview digital television.

A product of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.), PlayTV is endorsed by Freeview, Australia’s free digital television service that delivers more channels and viewing choice with no subscription fees.

Freeview CEO Robin Parkes said: “Freeview is all about providing ‘more’: more channels, with more of the best entertainment and content, giving Australians access to more choice in free-to-view digital television.

“In order to access this fantastic array of free entertainment, consumers need to switch to digital, and PlayTV gives consumers more choice on how they can do that.

“With PS3 and PlayTV, gamers not only have access to a world of entertainment but also the wonderful world of Freeview free-to-view digital television.”

PlayTV connects via USB to PS3, instantly adding Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and twin High Definition digital TV tuner functions to the entertainment suite allowing consumers to watch, pause and record HD Digital TV. PlayTV is simple to use, features a seven day electronic programming guide and has no ongoing subscription costs.
Australians are increasingly making the switch to free-to-view digital television, enjoying unprecedented
free viewing choice.

According to the latest Digital Tracker research from the Federal Government’s Digital Switchover Taskforce, over half of Australian homes can receive free-to-view digital television as of September, 2009.
